Becoming a Patroller
Have you ever thought of becoming a volunteer patroller?
Well, here's the lowdown:
Sundown Ski Patrol runs an annual candidate training program,
split into two parts.
Part One. Sep - Dec Part
one is a two night per week (Monday and Thursday) class, held in our patrol base aid
room at Sundown. The class covers all aspects of outdoor emergency care (OEC)
and covers everything from CPR and trauma care to environmental and medical
emergencies. Passing candidates become OEC technicians. The emphasis is on team
work, Fred and the other instructors provide exceptional tutoring in the OEC
curriculum.
Part Two. Jan-Mid March Part
two is held on the same nights but moves out onto the mountain, On Mondays
the team covers OEC
- but this time in the environment that a patroller will practice the skills in
real life. On Thursdays Deb,
Roger and others cover skiing techniques and toboggan handling - the method we
use to get injured skiers and boarders to the base.
The classes are run by National Ski Patrol (NSP)
approved instructors, to the standards NSP holds across the USA. Successful
participants become volunteer patrollers at Sundown - a highly regarded team in
the industry.
